About Us
Our Story
Growing up, going on treasure hunts to dig through piles of silver oxidised jewelry in street stalls and bargaining with the vendor ‘bhaiya’ for the best price was a way of life. Think dark kohl-rimmed eyes, flowing cotton kurta-tops and jeans paired with your favorite pair of silver jhumka earrings and bangles; that’s the version of India we represent.
From day 1, our purpose has been to introduce the Trinidadian market to authentic Indian fashion that was not previously available amongst the plethora of outdated polyester, sequins and blinding bling.
From oxidised silver jhumkas, soft flowing cotton sarees and heavy intricately embroidered bridal outfits, the focus has always been to support high quality Indian craftsmanship. Today we work with 100+ suppliers across 17 states of India.
Meet the Founder
I was born in India until the age of 9 and moved to Trinidad in 2006. I come from a South Indian Tamil family that appreciates all Indian Arts, Craft and Textile.
All my life I’ve listened to my Amma and Perima(Elder Uncle’s wife) talk about fabrics like Tussar, Ikkat, Bandhini & Brocade; saree weaves like Pochampally, Banarasi, Kanchivaram, and learnt about Indian embroideries like Chikankari and Kantha. As I grew older, I started paying attention to Indian designers. Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, Anita Dongre, Nalli Silks and FabIndia have been huge sources of inspiration for shaping my personal aesthetic along with the usual dose of Bollywood. In the summer of 2015, I stepped inside the Sabyasachi store for the first time after walking around the street stalls down the road buying oxidised jewelry (pieces I still wear today 11 years on). Little did I know that from admiring Sabyasachi’s lehengas I’d finally get a chance to speak to him one-on-one in September 2022 at Bergdorf’s while I was working at Anita Dongre, NYC. I didn't seek Indian fashion, its just always been a part of my life.
I studied International Affairs at Northeastern University Boston and discovered Social Entrepreneurship. To me business should be able to do good and have a positive impact. D’Indian Trends is my a personal playground for me to dig deep, research, source and share knowledge of Indian fashion and craft. D’Indian Trends is a marketplace to shop all those finds. Every piece I curate carries a story and is my connection to my beloved homeland India.
