Few things in Indian fashion carry the weight of a Kanchipuram or Kanjeevaram saree; they are draped at weddings, gifted at milestones, and passed down through generations as a living heirloom. Handwoven in the South Indian temple town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, these sarees are among the most celebrated in South India, prized for their exceptional durability, lustrous pure silk, and the signature interlocked weave that sets them apart. It’s no coincidence that icons like Deepika Padukone wore it for her wedding and the legendary Rekha is often seen wearing a Kanjeevaram.
This particular piece features a luminous off-white body and crimson-red border and pallu. The pallu (pronounced pul-loo) is the decorative end panel that drapes elegantly over the shoulder, and here it is richly woven entirely in zari(the traditional metallic thread made of pure gold, silver, and copper that gives Kanjeevarams their shimmer). The border is woven in the Korvai technique where the border is structurally grown into the body of the saree on the loom, rather than stitched on afterward. This is a hallmark of an authentic, high-quality Kanjeevaram. The saree features a peacock or Mayil motif; it is a symbol often used in South Indian weaving.
This saree was sourced with care and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity documenting the silk purity and the exact gold, silver, and copper content of the zari. When you invest in a Kanjeevaram, you deserve to know exactly what you’re holding.
